About This Project
Place of Grace Community center was founded in Soweto slum by the late Penina Maria Kioko. Maria managed to host 24 children in a single room, which was a real challenge, but her love for them kept her moving. POG's founder passed away in 2018 and her sister-in-law, Ruth Munanie, took over the director role. In November 2021 Place of Grace relocated to Donholm. The key objective of the home was/is to bridge the gap of the less fortunate.
Place of Grace is a refuge for troubled hurting children - children who are experiencing emotional instability, often due to family trauma of abuse or neglect. For whatever reasons, these children are unable to cope with their current living conditions. The vision of the Place of Grace (PoG) is to provide more than just the basic physical needs of orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC) in need, but also to provide a nurturing family that gives the children an excellent education that exceeds what is normally available in the surrounding slum communities in Nairobi's Kayole, Dandora and Soweto. PoG's vision, most importantly, is to provide a family in which God's love for His children is expressed to them through action, care and teaching, instilling seeds of God's love, truth and word in their hearts.
